Wary Of Weight Loss Jabs

According to the Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing, the main drivers of ill health among teenagers will be weight gain with almost half a billion teenagers around the World expected to be be overweight by 2030, 143 million more than in 2015.
A 2022 report from The World Health Organisation put 1 in 8 people in the world were obese, 2.5 billion adults overweight and of those, 890 million were obese but Science could come riding to the rescue once again as there are a plethora of Weight Loss jabs coming onto the market.
Many different types of anti-obesity medicines have been tested in clinical trials but the only ones that have proved to be safe and effective for use on the NHS are Orlistat, Liraglutide (also called Saxenda), Semaglutide (also called Wegovy)and Tirzepatide (also called Mounjaro) and they all work by making you feel fuller so you don't eat so much and by reducing cravings.
The NHS website shows that about 50,000 people are receiving weight-loss injections on the NHS and Health chiefs are calling for a greater roll out as the drugs,  originally developed to treat diabetes, have been shown in trials to show benefits on heart disease, cancer, liver and kidney disorders, and potentially even dementia.
Some are calling this is a 'golden age of medicine' and although we all sincerely hope it is, i am a little wary of the hyperbole surrounding these injections and despite them being available on the NHS, the UK's National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) declared that it is: 'unable to make a recommendation about use of the jabs on teenagers because of a lack of evidence of their impacts' which makes me pause in declaring them a certified scientific breakthrough.
Despite Nice not feeling able to make a recommendation for children, there is research which claims weight-loss jabs for obese children could be effective but i would wait until everyone is in agreement that it is 100% safe before subjecting any children to weight loss injections.

  1. riiiiiiiiight. something is very wrong. a health issue, obesity, that did not exist as recently as 1980, is now a major problem... meaning we have a societal structure issue and the solution is... wait for it... shoot drugs into people...

    oh well, as i have told my daughters thousands of times, "we are surrounded by mediocre people and that makes it easier for us to succeed".

  2. I think you will find it is the pharmaceutical companies who want to shoot drugs into people, very profitable for them.

  3. so, you want to avoid getting into the real problems and instead attack capitalism and pharma's for coming up with a solution?

    btw, doctors are the ones that deal with symptoms instead of the root causes, and they are the ones that prescribe drugs...

    how about looking into:
    > sorry parenting,
    > ineffective education,
    > societal changes that encourage unhealthy living
    > denigration of the nuclear family
    > the leftist push for a judgement-less society (except for judging people that don't tow the leftist party line as racist, sexist, homophobe, xenophobe)
    > leftist mantra since 1965:
    >>> can't trust business
    >>> can't trust the rich
    >>> everybody not on the left are nazi
    >>> all religion is bad
    >>> believers are nutters
    >>> religious wars have caused more deaths than any other source (except leftist idealists stalin, lenin, mao, castro, xi)

    leftist actions have played a big role in today's problems. i hear people under 40 say "our societies are terrible", "the right has taken us back to slavery". really, where are the slaves?

    in my 70 years, in the US alone:
    > blacks have gone from being totally suppressed and segregated to being president, ceos, senators, etc.
    > women have gone from being constrained to vice-president, ceos, senators, etc.
    > homosexuals went from totally repressed to legal same-sex marriage
    > mixed race marriage is now common place
    > marriage is now optional instead of mandatory

    however, the left isn't satisfied with that. they constantly look for a new group that is being "oppressed" and they constantly blame the rich, and businesses, and capitalism because, having destroyed God and religion, they needed new oppressors...

    for the left, the individual is rarely responsible for their plight, nope, it is always some oppressor causing the problem.

    replacing religion with secularism and blaming capitalism for every problem has not been good for our societies.

    obese children is a byproduct.

    leftists of the world arise and claim your glory!!
