Gunboat Diplomacy was a popular tactic by the British with the mosr famous example being the Opium Wars where the British parked their warships off the coast of China to force them to relegalise the drug opium which was very lucrative to the British Empire and we really didn't like it when the Chinese Empire, our best customer, began to see the unfavorable side of massive, widespread heroin addiction and banned it. We aLeo said you can hand over Hong Kong as a place to land our Opium cargo as you are at it.
It wasn't just the Brits, most nations where at it to intimidate other, less powerful entities into concessions but it kinda fell out of favour until recently when America has picked it up and brushed it off as they park warships off the coast of Iran although the reasons are constantly changing and the current ones are no Nuclear Weapons, stop killing protesters and stop funding militia around the Middle East.
Now i am no fan of Iran or any of the Middle East theocracies and if they could all just dump the Religion thing the World would be a much more tolerant place and neither do i want any nations to have nuclear weapons or any of them to kill protesters regardless of where they are, Iran, America or China but we have to be consistent.
If you go left at Tehran and continue through Iraq and Jordan you will find Israel who have, and continue to commit a Genocide, killing over 70,000 Palestinians since October 2023, mostly women and children including guiding them to 'safe places' before then bombing them.
Just this weekend another 31 were killed and since the Peace Deal they agreed to in October 2025, 509 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli military and it is America who have been giving political and military backing for the Genocide to continue.
Yes, Iran is run by an awful, murderous Administration who need to be dealt with diplomatically but far worse is Israel who is run by a Genocidal Administration who have been conducting it for over 75 years and backed by a warmongering nation who are currently under the control of a narcissistic idiot who was recently threatening to invade another NATO country.
America, Iran, Israel....a pox on all their houses.

meanwhile, iran has just killed over 40,000 of their own people in one month. you've often mentioned and compared the actions of leaders to hitler and nazis... look no further than iran for that.
getting rid of religion. religion isn't the cause of war. it is very clumsy and convenient to blame religion. granted, many muslims believe that islam requires the destruction of all other religions, but that is the only religion with that doctrine.
geopolitical forces combined with envy (you have what i need) and jealousy (you want what i have) are the cause of war, and religion is just a tool to stir up the people.
lumping the US in with iran and china in re protestors is beyond inane. ask the survivors of tienanmen square or families in teheran...
when property is destroyed and people are threatened or harmed it is not a protest - it is a riot. when police say to break up the protest for a legal reason (aka blocking traffic or access to buildings), and you resist, that is no longer a protest either and you are eligible for arrest... if you resist arrest, the police are justified in using force. if you fight the police, escalating force is justified.
in the US, one woman that was following and harassing police was killed. it should have been de-escalated, but comparing one incident out of tens of thousands of interactions to what the chinese and iranians have done is inane.
the other US shooting involved a man that had damaged a police vehicle, who interrupted police action, in a hostile environment for the police, while he carrying a firearm. again, it should have been de-escalated, but he was just plain s-t-u-p-i-d.
putting the US in the same category with iran (which has killed thousands) is indefensible and irrational.
the uk stopped using gunboat diplomacy because, 1.) the uk became a second tier power (remember the falklands), and 2.) the US took over protecting the west so the uk and france could rebuild.
then, because the uk was second tier, and couldn't maintain its imperial territories in the middle east the US had to get involved to insure europe had oil, and far east in an attempt to restrain communism - fail except for south korea, japan, and the philippines.
the US has been using gunboat diplomacy since 1947. and it is a good thing for all of europe that the US did it.
the reasons for using gunboat diplomacy change because the tactics of iran, russia, and china change. they, like the US and uk, are trying to secure their borders and satisfy their envy and jealousies, they just don't have the capacity of the US.
wanting the world to hug, make sacrifices for people they don't know, and resolve their differences is nice (as are unicorns and rainbows), but it is not the way of nature (harsh and unequal) or human nature (it only takes a few harsh people to require the rest of us to be harsh. being nice didn't stop hilter, mussolini, mao, stalin, lenin, castro, maduro, chavez, and it won't stop xi, kim, or Khamenei).

another related problem, the US has treated european nations and canada like equals for so long that it seems you think you are equals - well, equals that look down your nose at the US while riding a high horse (that the US subsidizes).

for decades, iran used force to pursue its ambitions - hamas, hezbolla, conflict in iran, support for terrorists, more. now, the US is using its force on iran. the main difference is that iran is a punkass third rate power. cry me a bowl of tears.
