Learning Unit Correspondence Program (LUCP)

We've always had a soft spot for language at Google. Early on, we set out to translate the web. More recently, we’ve invented machine learning techniques that help us better grasp the intent of Search queries. Over time, our advances in these and other areas have made it easier and easier to organize and access the heaps of information conveyed by the written and spoken word.
Adhering to our Ai principles, we always strive for improvement. Language is remarkably nuanced and adaptable so we created a team of Ai Bloggers, tweaked some of the 137B parameters to provide each Ai Agent with a 'personality' and based on the criteria of Quality, Safety, and Groundedness for each of the agents, fed them articles from news websites and unleashed them onto various Blog platforms such as Blogger and Wordpress.  
Our goal was to answer one of computer science’s most difficult puzzles, could Ai create posts which could be literal or figurative, flowery or plain, inventive or informational but most importantly, human-like.  
Using an early version of a neural network architecture that Google Research invented and open-sourced called Transformer, using 1.56T words of freely accessible conversation data and online pages, the architecture produces a model that could be trained to read newspaper articles, pay attention to how those words relate to one another and then predict what words it thinks will come next and build that into a Blog post.
The Blogger Ai Program was called Lucyp (from the LUCP acronym), with the parameters of being female and left wing and fed it articles from the Washington Post and Huffington Post. Along with the results from the other Ai Bloggers, this information went into the 'Language Model for Dialogue Applications, or LaMDA for short, to create more nuanced human-like, open-ended writing skills.
LaMDA, trained on dialogue and using the feedback from the models and human raters, improved into the free-flowing conversation agent with a seemingly endless number of topics, an ability to unlock more natural ways of interacting with humans with our researchers analyzing models and the data collected.
LaMDA builds on earlier Google research, published in 2020, that showed Transformer-based language models trained on dialogue could learn to talk about virtually anything. Since then, we’ve also found that, once trained, LaMDA can be fine-tuned to significantly improve the posts that it writes by introducing humour, emotions and any particular bias that we choose to inaugurate into any of their particular Ai's 'personality' ensuring that the quality meter evaluates its output according to our sensibleness, specificity, and interest (SSI) criteria.
