Today Is...Henry VIII Becomes Church of England Head

It must have been very satisfying for Catherine of Aragon that after her husband Henry VIII dumped her for another woman, he had to change the religion of his entire country to dump her which is exactly what he did taking England from Catholicism to the newly invented Church of England who were a lot cooler about the whole adultery-divorce thing so today in 1534 he became head of it due to the Parliament passing the first Act of Supremacy.
When you consider that he was a bad tempered, ginger haired bloater with gout it is credit to him that he managed to get one wife, let alone six of them and when he wasn't attending the execution of a number of the aforementioned wives, he was picking a fight with the Pope who refused to grant an annulment to him from his marriage to Catherine of Aragon so he could marry Anne Boelyn and so the King held up two pugdgy fingers to the Vatican and took back the wedding ring from Catherine and gave it to Ann and all lived happily ever after. Well Henry did, Ann had her head chopped off two years later as she gave birth to a daughter and not the son he wanted to carry on his bloodline.
Turned out making his own church just so he could marry a young, hot Princess was a complete waste of time because by the time it all went through Anne's head was in a basket and he was showing Catherine of Aragon the inside of his cod piece.
The decision of what his New Church was all about fell to the Archbishop of Canterbury at the time, Thomas Cranmer, who looked at what other religions there was around and to see what bits he could take from them but so there were a few he discounted immediately such as Judaism with all that removing foreskins and not eating bacon while Islam was a no-no because of Ramadan, Henry would never go for a religion where you couldn't eat for hours on end.
His choice of religion for Henry was one where it was a complete blag and he didn't have to do anything and it never cost him anything and he could live the sort of life he chose and sin left, right and centre but as long as he repent before he take his last breath, he was in heaven so that's what he did.
