At the turn of the century, the UK debt stood at £534bn and undertook a huge jump to £1061bn in 2008 which was the year of the Global Economic Crash and when Gordon Brown's Labour Government was replaced by David Cameron's Conservatives in 2010, the National Debt was £1519bn.
One of the first things the newly elected Conservatives did was launch a mighty austerity drive to reduce the National Debt so they initiated severe reductions in public spending and put up our taxes but in 2019, when Boris Johnson gained the keys to Downing Street and declared the age of Austerity over, the UK National debt stood at £1835bn.
Today in 2024 the debt is £2296bn and looking at the Governments own figures, the debt has risen every year since 2000 and is projected to hit £2637bn in 2029 which leads me to this simple question.
As we are currently suffering the highest tax burden since the 1940's and public spending has been so horribly slashed that the Government is finding it a struggle to find where they can cut back even further, what have they done with all our money they saved not spending on public services and how economically
incompetent do you have to be to spend less but still manage to almost double our national debt in 14 years?

the uk cut services and the left (progressives aka present company) went bat crap crazy. problem is, while the uk "cut" spending, the truth is they didn't really reduce spending. they reduced the "growth" in spending.
we get the same thing in the usa. republicans "cut" the increase in spending planed by democrats, the democrats and their journalistic sock-puppets scream bloody murder, they say the republicans are going to take away your health care (and let you die), and social security (and take all your possessions), and subsidized housing (throw you out on the street), subsidized food (starve you), subsidized education (sustain racism), on and on and on... meanwhile, the government hires more employees, increases their pay and benefits, and invests in more buildings and facilities for the new employees that are paid for with taxes...
government spending is not being reduced, the growth is being reduced... yet the uneducated people don't understand why cuts aren't reducing the national debt... meanwhile they berate people as stupid because of grammar and spelling...

I'm sure the 300,000 civil and public servants jobs lost, the 800 libraries closed, the closure of 64 museums, 4 prisons, 57 hospitals, 66 Accident & Emergency wards, 100 swimming pools and the years of pay freeze for civil and public servants as well as VAT rises to 20%, child benefit stopped for higher earners, Education Maintenance Allowance ceased for students and disability allowance reduced saved a few quid.

believe in the fairness of our Capitalist system - once again your lack of economic knowledge shows. anybody who says capitalism is fair is stupid. it is not fair. some people excel and others fail. what conservatives believe is that capitalism, with all of its faults, is better than socialism/communism, and we have many examples to support this viewpoint...

after many trillions of dollars wasted on welfare, and decades of public health care, subsidized education, affirmative action programs, subsidized housing, subsidized transportation, subsidized nutrition, subsidized day care, the rise of women in the workplace, the rise of women in politics, more and bigger government, and more government regulations leftists tell us that the US and the uk have made no progress on equity. racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and misanthropy are at all time highs. everything is worse. and, the conservatives want to take it all away, even though nothing has improved, which will make it even worse... lefties seen confused...
