Trump's Slide Into Electoral Autocracy

Us British take the piss out of everyone, that is just what we do so when a fat man with atrocious hair and orange skin turns up on our radar doing Nazi salutes and saying embarrassing things while thinking himself a historical heavyweight, it is a coup for us and obviously he is going to be made fun of mercilessly and at every opportunity.
The bonus is that he is American so it is only a problem when he slimes outside of his borders but generally all the things he is doing is affecting his own country and an annual report by Global Watchdog V-Dem on the global state of democracy makes for depressing reading if you are that side of the Atlantic Ocean.
The number of Worldwide autocracies (91) has surpassed democracies (88) and the latest report still ranks the U.S. as a 'Liberal Democracy' but it does have a little asterisk next to it which states that the report only goes up to the end of 2024 and does not include events in 2025, meaning it does not cover the start of Donald Trump's latest presidential term.
It then goes on to explain that events since January such as Trump pardoning 1,500 criminals who supported him, firing independent agency watchdogs, threatened numerous universities with sanctions, deporting immigrants accused of gang membership without due process and defying court orders, demanding the prosecution of the media and certain adversaries, purging apolitical police and military brass, ignoring laws and deleting federal programs means that next years list will have America dropping past a 'Flawed Democracy' and into the 'Electoral Autocracy' column.
Officially, an Electoral Autocracy is a regime, in which democratic institutions are imitative and adhere to authoritarian methods. In these regimes, regular elections are held but are flawed and fail to reach democratic standards of freedom and fairness and Trump and America will be joining the likes of Russia's Vladimir Putin, Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Viktor Orbán in Hungary and Narendra Modi in India as well as Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Venezuela and Nicaragua.
In an electoral autocracy, you can vote, you can protest, you can criticize the government but that comes at the price of losing your job, public funding or a contract and over time people, including the media, start to self-censor and the Autocrat's actions are unreported and uncriticised.
As i said at the top, to us over here he is a fat orange guy saying and doing ridiculous things thousands of miles away while cuddling up to the other Global Autocrat's who really must be looking at him and rubbing their hands in glee and wondering how can they take advantage of this complete joke before he is taken out of Office by either a coronary, his own people or one of those second amendment nutters and they get someone not quite so dumb to take over.

your ignorance of all things geopolitical is perfectly illustrated in this post. bravo. and all this coming from a leftist (follower of marx, centralized governance, aka, autocracy, aka, socialism, aka, communism, aka cuba, venzuela, china, russia...) in a nation that still has monarchs...

it is to laugh...

I’m sure you mean the Swedish Global Watchdog V-Dem and not me, I didn’t write it. Your ignorance in basically all things outside of your career in knocking out Insurance is even more, well not laughable because you honestly seem to think you know about these things, so let’s go with quite sad really.
