Burnham's Problem

Our new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, has made a pretty decent start to his tenure-ship and most of the left are supporting him as he has been saying the right things and even chipped in a few benefits to ease the cost of living crisis but with a budget coming up in a few weeks, it will interesting how he will stick to the mantra that 40 years of right wing economics is a mistake that needs rectifying.
The problem Burnham has is that there is a fat orange idiot over the Ocean who is started a trade war that has pushed up the prices of most stuff for his own people and a real one which you can see in the garage forecourts here.
As he has not called a General Election, he is bound to the Labour Party Manifesto which clearly stated there will be no rise in Income Tax but the noises he is making about increasing Capital Gains and a Wealth Tax on Banks is warmly received so that is where we can expect him to look.
As for cuts, after the awful years of austerity under the Conservatives, there is very little fat left to trim and the Social Security bill is being pointed at but 55% of that is State Pensions and almost 30% is Tax Credits (Universal Credit) which is topping up workers on a low wage so they will not be cut but there may be some fiddling around with what remains although as Keir Starmer found out, taking money from the Disabled and Children is  a step too far for many Labour MP's.
I suspect that whatever Burnham and his Chancellor do, it will tick off some people but it is difficult to see where he can go with it whilst rectifying  40 years of right wing economic awfulness but i would suggest rejoining the EU and scrapping our Nuclear Weapons, problem solved and rainbows and teddy-bears for everyone.
