Killing In The Name Of

The government indicates it is committed to changing the law to allow same-sex marriage and rather predictably it has not gone down well with the Church who have stomped their feet and gone to sit in the corner in a sulk.
The Church doesn't even try to hide its homophobia, after all, the view of man laying with man is set out clearly in the Bible.
‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable'.
There, God calls it detestable and what the Bible says goes because it is the word of God.
Hang on, what's this bit on the end...'They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads'.
Put to death!! Blimey, the local vicar didn't mention that bit.
So as we are machine gunning down homosexuals with Gods blessing, who else does the bible say we can kill?

People Who Don't Listen to Priests (Deuteronomy 17:12), Witches (Exodus 22:17), Fortunetellers (Leviticus 20:27), anyone who hits their parents (Exodus 21:15), anyone who curses their parents (Leviticus 20:9), adulterers (Leviticus 20:10), anyone who follows another religion (Exodus 22:19), non-believers (2 Chronicles 15:12-13), Women Who Are Not Virgins On Their Wedding Night (Deuteronomy 22:20-21), Blasphemers (Leviticus 24:10-16), and Sunday workers (Exodus 31:12-15)

I thought it was the Koran which had the violent bits in it but it seems the Christian God is the bloodthirsty, murderous maniac. What the hey, follow me Salvation Army, we got some fortunetelling gay witches who work on Sunday to have a quiet word with.

you sound like the church of england circa 400 AD with everything being literal. the bible is about your soul/spirit.

when jesus died he took all of our faults on himself. when he rose and ascended to heaven he brought all of us (believers) back to life (not our bodies - our souls).

we all die in these physical bodies, what will happen to the soul? that is what jesus is about, the soul.

much of the old testament, in fact some think as early as genesis, is explaining the coming of the savior. the jews don't beleive jesus is the savior, the christians do, the muslims believe someone else is savior (though you will never hear them say a negative word about jesus - just peopel that beleive he is the savior).

think about the soul Lucy.

So what bits are to be taken literally and which are not?

Most C of E vicars are in harmony with their flocks, in that they tend to doubt the existence of God.

q, Anon beat me to it. On one of the right wing Christian blogs that i frequent, the Koran is forever being hailed as violent and telling Muslims to kill infidels. Lo and behold, the Bible is filled with exactly the same nonsense (although which is more murderous i don't know).
It also throws up some contradictions especially the do not kill commandment and God is caring and loving. Don't forget that he wiped out the entire human race except the Noah family at one point so he is not shy of indiscriminate mass murder.

the bible has two themes... father, son, holy spirit and faith, love, hope. if an interpretation doesn't jibe with either theme it is not a valid interpretation. god cares about the sole, not the body.

concerning noah comment, our bodies are a temporary condition. our souls are eternal...

And the unholy ghost of Mohamed Atta agrees with you.

The unholy ghost of Atta also has his 72 virgins to keep him company.

If there is a God, I reckon there won't be. And, come to think of it, if there isn't a God, there still won't be.

Sorry Mohamed, you should have gotten laid while you were still in this world. You ugly twat.
