John Bolton, the former US ambassador to the United Nations, dubbed the British government’s performance in dealing with Iran as 'pathetic'.
A senior American commander in the Gulf has said his men would have fired on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard rather than let themselves be taken hostage .
Right wing blogs everywhere are bravely stating the Brits should of gone out with all guns blazing rather than be taken hostage.
Of course everyone has an opinion on what the 15 sailors should have done or not done, but from where i am sitting there are 15 sailors still alive who would certainly not be if they had started firing their weapons.
Alive and captured or dead.
Is it really only me who sees these choices as a no brainer?

I'm not ashamed to say that I DON'T KNOW what British marines should do when confronted by Iranian guards in the middle of the gulf. They are still alive though, as you point out. Thank goodness Jimmy Carter's not involved!
Thank goodness John Bolton isn't involved.
What would he have the British government do, by the way?
A typically chickenhawk response from Walrus-face Bolton.
Gee, if he's so tough, then I'd like to see him strap it on and break them all out of their captivity, Rambo-styles.
And, come to think of it, 'Big John' can clean up Iraq & Afghanistan on the way back... Show the rest of those pussies how it's done.
Then, after he's done killing all the evil-doers in the Middle East and becoming the world's number one superhero, he can wake up and sheepishly drag his duvet off the washing machine...
I heard on the news this morning that Iran was releasing the hostages. So much for the chicken-hawk theory that talking is a waste of time.
It's good that no shots were fired. But I was embarrassed on behalf of Britain for the sailors apologizing. They should have remained silent and uncooperative while being paraded around on TV. Iran was the cynical and desperate one in this case, and I can only hope their global position has suffered a setback for it.
BTW this post doesn't say that Bolton suggested opening fire. Some Marines may have said that but it's their job to think that way. I wouldn't have them do that. Taking it peacefully and acting like POWs would have been appropriate. Too bad they didn't exactly but all's well that ends well I hope.
All's well that ends well, i agree Don and thankfully this has ended well.
I saw Bolton being interviewed by Jon Snow last night. His disappointment that this episode didn't spark World War III was palpable. The man's a fruit loop.
I think the neocons are going down. The peaceful resolution of the hostage crisis. Pelosi's visit. I hope so anyway.
