The Appalling Ignorance Saddens Me

I suppose it was sadly inevitable that in light of what is happening in Gaza, the less intelligent among us would take it upon themselves to act their shoe size and attack Jews and synagogues in retaliation for Israels actions.
Unable to distinguish between a country and a countries religion, there has been a surge of attacks on Jews in Britain and Europe from the terminally thick and stupid with arson attacks on synagogues and other Jewish buildings, anti-Semitic slogans daubed on shops in areas with a high Jewish contingent and physical assaults including a Jew pulled from his car and beaten.
"There has been a significant rise in the number of anti-Semitic incidents but it is a pattern with which we and the police are now sadly familiar, whereby hysteria is whipped up against Israel, and British Jews then suffer a wave of anti-Semitism" said a spokesman for the Jewish group Community Security Trust.
Police are stepping up patrols in the Jewish communities in England but the violence against Jews is increasing in other parts of Europe with a burning car rammed into the gates of a synagogue in France and "murderers" and "don't subject Palestine to ethnic cleansing" daubed on Israel's embassy in Stockholm, Sweden.
In Denmark, two Jews were injured when someone shot at them with a pistol and there has been a rash of attacks on buildings in Belgium.
Israel is very quick to take any slight against them as anti-Semitic and it saddens me that a violent minority here are also unable to separate Israel and Judaism and attack innocent civilians whose only connection with Israel is their religion.

The Independent Jewish Voice, Britain's highest profile Jewish group, released a statement that reads:
'IJV stands for the application of the principles of human rights and international law to the resolution of the Middle East conflict. Israeli citizens have the right to live free from the threat of rocket attacks, but these cannot justify Israel's actions. The massive attack on Gaza has destroyed the lives of hundreds of Palestinians, and is creating an immense humanitarian crisis for a people under siege, a form of collective punishment illegal under international law. Such violent and inhumane conduct will do nothing to reduce the risk to Israelis. There can be no military solution. In furtherance of our declaration, we support the international calls for an immediate ceasefire.'

Being Jewish does not make you an Israeli as being Roman Catholic does not make you Italian so engage the few braincells that you possess and stop the mindless violence against an innocent population. If you feel that strongly, boycott Israeli goods or join one of the many demonstrations against Israel but don't take out your anger on innocent people who are probably as disgusted at Israel as you are if you only bothered to ask.

How sad indeed that you even had to address such imbeciles and write this post. Hate breeds hate breeds hate. And here we are.

I wouldn't include that act of defacing the Israeli embassy in Stockholm as being among the acts of ignorance that you describe. I realise it's still illegal but at least the graffiti was directed against the actions of the state of Israel, rather than against jews in general, which is what those stupid acts of violence are all about.

People who are violent or hateful towards those who happen to share the same ethnicity and/or religion as people who they don't like are cretins, and it would be great if they removed themselves from the gene pool at the earliest convenience.

So true Annie but i was expecting attacks on Jews to increase just as attacks on Muslims increased here after the London bombings. Some people are unfortunatley just dumb.

Fair point you make about the Swedish attacks Cheezy as it was aimed at Israel and not at Jews in general.

Here in the states the Arabs are the most frequent target of the ignorant.

I often find that some folks are so ignorant that they can't even tell the difference between a Muslim and a Hindu or a Buddhist, or even a Muslim and a distinctively Middle Eastern looking Jew (both the Arabs and the Jews are Semites after all).

Some people just have general issues with whoever isn't like them.

I think you hit the nail on the head with that last sentence nog and they don't need much encouragement to turn their bile on whoever is the latest flavour of the month, all they need is an excuse.

Given what the Israelis are currently doing to the Gazans (the massacres, the destruction, the genocide, the murder of Palestinian women and kids, etc), it's no wonder that Jews, whether in the Jewish homeland of Israel, or elsewhere, are not popular.

Of course the Americans, who happily arm and support the Israelis, are not so popular either!

By their works ye shall know them.

Lucy - Thanks for stopping by, it's good to see more of those on the Left starting to 'condemn' Hamas. But unfortunately, just condemning them is not enough. That will never make them stop.

Attacking Jews or even Israelis around the world is pathetic. It is the Israeli government only that the Hamas supporters are rationally allowed to be mad at.

More and more of the Left (in much greater numbers than those on the Right) is starting to act just like Hitler's supporters did. It is very frightening. There are about 7-8 million Jews in Israel, surrounded by close to 100 million Arab Muslims who mostly want them destroyed. I defend the minority.

Despite what Nog said, there were very few attacks against Arabs in the States after 9/11, probably less than 10, and most of them weren't even Arabs, but Sikhs ignorantly assumed to be Arabs by doubly stupid idiots.

As the brave Geert Wilders put it recently, "To begin with, there is already a Palestinian state, and that is Jordan. This land covers nearly eighty percent of the historic Palestine. Most residents of Jordan are Palestinians, for instance queen Rania."

The whole 'Palestinian' situation has been created and sustained just to weaken, and hopefully destroy, Israel.

Israel has a right to self-defense, period. Hamas fires missile from schools and apartment buildings. They won’t allow civilians to leave the danger area. Hamas wants Palestinian civilians killed so they can get your sympathy. Israel repeatedly warns civilians in the area through phone calls and dropping leaflets. Hamas has no excuse.

Hamas is what makes Gaza much worse than it could be. If they would give up the dream of destroying Israel and the Jews and stopped all missiles and suicide bombers, and all terrorist attacks, Israel would welcome doing business with them, and things would be peaceful. But they can't do this as long as they follow their Koran strictly.

There is no negotiating with a mad man, or with Jihadis who want to die to go get their 72 virgins.
I hope Israel doesn't quit too early. If Israel is destroyed, terrorism in the rest of the world will just increase, it will never stop, as long as there are Radical Muslims, or rather, Muslim Fundamentalists; who are appeased, defended, and kissed up to.
