With the Russian troops continuing to build, an invasion of Ukraine is looking more and more likely but we do still hold out hope of a diplomatic solution and avoiding a military and bloody outcome.
Putin has obviously weighed up what he is sure to lose in economic sanctions against what he will gain by taking Ukraine and his goal is to not have NATO troops on the border of Russia, something which Western powers have made clear they will not rule out if Ukraine was to join NATO.
One solution is for Ukraine to adopt neutrality which was suggested by the French so Ukraine would agree to never join NATO but Ukraine are not keen on this.
The US President Joe Biden is warning that the world was standing at an 'inflection point in history' and called on Western democratic powers to unite which would the same nations who decided they didn't like the regimes in Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq and Syria and invaded to bring in more Western friendly leaders, which is exactly what Russia is after now.
Regime change whether it is Western or Russian forces is wrong and results in death and destruction so Putin is wrong now as was Bush, Blair, Cameron and Obama previously but hopefully we can diplomatically prevent this war before it starts because the consequences if we don't is too awful to contemplate for tens of thousands of innocent Ukrainians.
