Today Is.. Worlds Oldest Football Team Founded

For a football team that started out as a Cricket Team, Sheffield Wednesday haven't done as bad as you imagine although they are currently in the second tier of English football but they do have 4 First Division Winner Trophies, 3 FA Cup Trophies and a League Cup in their trophy cabinet which is more than most although they have saved on metal polish these last few decades as the last thing they won was in 1991.
They also hold the record for the fastest sending off in British Football when goalkeeper Kevin Pressman was sent off after just 13 seconds for handling a shot outside the area.
Starting out as 'The Wednesday Cricket Club' in 1816, the Wednesday part came from the Wednesdays being when the members would get together for a knock around as they had a half-day off work.
One evening a meeting was held to consider ways to keep the cricket players fit over the Winter months and someone suggested starting up a football team called Sheffield FC and they even wrote the rules which introduced throw ins, goal kicks, handball, offside, corner kicks and the size of the goals andsoon the football team was drawing more spectators and eclipsed the cricketing side of the club and the cricket club was ditched.
Famous fans include Arctic Monkeys singer Alex Turner, David Blunkett, Jarvis Cocker, Michael Palin and weirdly Jermaine Jackson for some reason.
