I have always been a fan of Billy Joel, my parents fault as they were always blasting his songs from the record player when I was growing up so i sort of fell into his music by osmosis and can sing along to almost all of his songs as i price up the Brussels Sprouts in the Supermarket.
For some reason he has only troubled the UK top 10 five times in a 50 year career and three of them came in 1983 from his Innocent Man album so not a great return for him but his concerts are always sold out and will be when he comes to Liverpool next year and we already have our tickets but if you hoping for a front row seat then you will be disappointed because he doesn't sell tickets for the front row.
I will let the Piano Man explain: 'We never sell front rows. We hold those tickets at just about every concert. For years, the scalpers got the tickets and would scalp the front row for ridiculous amounts of money… I’d look down and see rich people sitting there puffing on a cigar'.
'It turns out the real fans were always in the back of the room in the worst seats. We now hold those tickets, and I send my road crew out to the back of the room when the audience comes in, and they get people from the worst seats and bring ’em in to the front rows. This way, you’ve got people in the front row that are really happy to be there, real fans.'
Just another reason to love the man.
