That almighty screeching sound early this morning was Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak doing a sharp U-Turn over their self isolation after the new Health Minister tested positive for Coronavirus, a day after holding all days meetings with the Chancellor and Prime Minster.
Within three hours of announcing that they will not be self isolating as they were part of a pilot testing scheme, they changed to of course we will self isolate after an outcry from the public asking why they don't have to if we do?
As much as you can feel sorry for a Conservative MP, it fell to poor old Robert Jenrick to do the Sunday morning TV interviews and get it in the neck for defending their plans to continue working only for the pair to make him look a complete fool by announcing that they will isolate after all and not take part in the testing pilot.
Reaction to the initial news was rightly furious with people reporting they were going to delete the NHS Covid-19 app from their phones amidst the special rules for Johnson and Sunak and predicting it would cut through to the public even more directly than the controversy surrounding the lock-down journeys undertaken by Dominic Cummings which eroded so much trust in the Governments Coronavirus policy.
As tomorrow is Day 1 of Boris Johnson's national 'pile the bodies high' experiment, it is ironic that as the
country is heading for chaos with infections rapidly rising and huge swathes of the workforce self isolating, the top three Government Ministers responsible for it are absent.
The three are saying they will now be self-isolating until 26 July although they didn't say which year, so can they make it July 2024 and after the next UK Election please, the less those three clowns are calling the shots until we can replace them the better.
